KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and United Democratic Madhesi Front today agreed to include issues raised by Madhes-based parties in the fiscal budget.
It is almost certain that the budget will be passed with Unified CPN-Maoist, CPN-UML and the five Madhes-based parties supporting it. The main opposition Nepali Congress will vote against it as it has tabled the Expenses Cut Motion.
A meeting between the PM and UDMF leaders today decided to bring some changes in budget allocations by including UDMF concerns, said Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (Republic) chairman Jay Prakash Gupta.
“Madhesi concerns will be addressed by remaining within the limitations of budgetary allocations. The concerned ministries will manage allocations internally, keeping the concerns of Madhes-based parties in mind,” said Minister for Irrigation and Women, Children and Social Welfare Mahendra Prasad Yadav.
Madhesi concerns include constructing postal roads, giving land compensation to people whose lands have been used for roads; stopping the imposition of tax on people who have to purchase their daily commodities from across the border in India; providing gratuity in the name of martyrs of the Madhes movement; and balancing the budget.
Yadav also informed that the PM might induct some state ministers tomorrow.
